Dear Anna, You asked me about the most important 3 gigs that I have had and why they were so important. My most important gig and date was December 27th, 1962, at Jazz Club Montmartre in Copenhagen, Denmark. It was not an actual gig but it is absolutely the most important musical happening in my life. I think I told you the story… Okay, this is it: I had only 14 Danish kronor, it was 11:45 pm and it cost 10 kronor to get in. Dexter Gordon, Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen and the drummer William Schiopffe all signaled for me to come to the stand to play. Dexter, the leader, put up one finger, which I thought meant to come and play the last number of the set… William had been celebrating too much over the Christmas holidays.
